SRINAGAR, Nov 20: A spokesperson for the government of Jammu and Kashmir has denied media reports that Al-Jazeera television channel has been taken off-air after increasing violence against Palestinians by Israeli troops in Gaza.
Media organisations on Monday reported that the Qatar-based news channel had been blocked in Kashmir by government who according to them feared violent protests condemning the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza which have so far killed more than 100 people including women and children.
Residents of different parts of the city confirmed that the cable operators continue to beam signals of the news TV.
“No there is no problem with Al-Jazeera. In fact as I am talking to you on phone, I am watching the news,” said Feroz Ahmed, a resident of Rajbagh.
Muslim-majority Kashmir region, which has grappled with more than two decades of violence has often protested against any oppression against Muslims across the globe. It is perhaps the only region in India which observes the Quds – a day to mark solidarity with palestinians.
