JAMMU: State authorities on Thursday banned private practice of all Heads of Departments in the government run medical and dental colleges and their associated hospitals.
This is the first decision taken by Taj Mohiuddin, minister for medical education after he assumed charge following a major rejig in the state cabinet.
An official spokesperson said the decision has been taken to further improve patient care at these hospitals and make senior doctors available for their respective departments.
Terming healthcare as a critical sector, Moiuddin sought more reforms in the department to infuse “efficiency, transparency and above all a qualitative change” in patient care at these tertiary-care hospitals.
The spokesperson added that the order was formally issued by Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, M. K. Dwivedi.
“It was in this meeting the decision to improve efficiency and supervision at the level of HoDs in the GMCs and associated hospitals was taken,” he said.
