SRINAGAR: Chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) was taken into preventive custody when he stepped out from his house at Hyderpora.
Geelani had announced to offer Friday prayers in Jamia masjid at Sopore in north Kashmir.
A spokesman of the amalgam told the UNI that as soon as the octogenarian leader came out from his house he was put in a police vehicle and taken to some unknown place.
He said a large number of security force and police personnel still remained deployed outside the house of Geelani, who was under house detention since he returned from Delhi last week.
Why the police took Geelani someplace when they could have easily taken him back inside the house is not clear.
