“Police more callous than Indian Forces”
SRINAGAR: Octogenarian separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has expressed strong resentment against the Kashmir police, saying their “spree” of arrests was spreading fear.
He said the police had launched a drive to arrest youth in two districts -Shopian and Baramulla.
Citing reports by local residents in south Kashmir’s Shopian, Geelani said police ransacked residential houses and fired tear smoke shells, one of which landed inside a house causing damage to household items besides religious literature.
The police have denied these reports.
But Geelani said “Instead of apologizing for their wrongdoings, police started a fresh arrest drive against youth and in retribution implicated sons of the house owner in fake and fabricated cases.”
He said the Police have proved themselves to be “more callous” than the “Indian forces”, referring to the military and paramilitaries.
“The police should understand that Kashmir issue is a solid reality and in its comparison the existence of police department is negligible,” he said.
Geelani has stressed for the immediate release of the arrested youth.
