SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader and chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a one day shutdown over the alleged assault on Eid congregation in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dozens of people have been injured and many shops and vehicles burnt in communal violence after Eid prayers near Chogan Ground Eidgah Friday morning.
A curfew has been imposed in the area and the army deployed.
A local resident told FreePress that the clashes erupted after a group of Hindus threw stones at Muslim worshippers and burnt cars. They also fired live bullets, wounding many, he said.
Later even Muslim protesters retaliated, the resident said, and burnt shops belonging to members of the Hindu community.
“The shutdown call is against the attack on Muslims,” a spokesman of the Hardline faction of the Hurriyat said.
