SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader and chairman of the hardline Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a 3-day shutdown to protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru at Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
“People should observe complete shutdown on Feb 9, 10 and 11 against Afzal’s hanging,” he told a local newspaper over phone from New Delhi.
He said Guru’s hanging is “murder of democracy” and “imposing curfew is against basic principles of democracy.”
Meanwhile the University of Kashmir has postponed all the exams scheduled to be held on Saturday.
A spokesperson of the university said new dates for the examinations would be announced soon.
