SRINAGAR, July 7: A nephew of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was killed Saturday after a speeding cab hit him in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
Peer Rafiq Ahmed, 50, was mowed down by a hurrying vehicle near Mattan, 65 kms from capital Srinagar, they said.
Police have launched a hunt for the driver who has absconded.
“Peer Rafiq Sahib was a known spiritual figure in the Valley particularly in south Kashmir,” the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP), to which Mufti is the patron, conveyed in a statement.
Rafiq was buried at Aishmuqam, a party spokesman said adding people from all walks of life thronged his residence to mourn the death.
