SRINAGAR, July 1: A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for the rape of a 5-year-old girl at in Budgam district, sending shock waves across the Muslim majority region where sex abuse cases are rarely reported, police said on Sunday.
“One girl (name with held) of Magam was raped by a boy of Iskanderpora, Beerwah,” a police official said.
“Actually the boy belongs to another village called Beerwah and had come to visit his relatives who are the victim’s neighbours, the police official added.
“The girl was playing with the teenager when he took her to the backyard and raped her.”
The girl was shifted to a local hospital for medical help but had to be sent to Srinagar for further treatment.
Meanwhile the accused has been arrested by the local police and investigations into the incident are on.
