SRINAGAR: Fire erupted at the main maternity hospital in Kashmir capital Srinagar late on Tuesday evening, but it has now been brought under control.
All the patients, including babies, are safe.
Our correspondent says a large number of people watched as over a dozen fire tenders, two with sky-lifts, tried to put out the fire in the outdoor block of the hospital.
The main buildings which house wards and operation theaters were untouched by the flames.
Authorities have told FreePress that the damaged building was not used for patients and only had a supply store and a room for security personnel. It was to be dismantled soon, they said.
