Kashmir’s ‘Rapist’ Godman to Be Tried On Fast-track Basis

BUDGAM: A local court in Buddgam district of central Kashmir has decided to try on a fast track basis Gulzar Ahmed Bhat, a self-styled Godman accused of raping minor girls at his seminary.

The decision was taken by Principal Sessions Judge Budgam, Syed Touqeer Ahmed, a local news agenncy, CNS, reports.

The Counsel for the accused, Advocate Mushtaq Ahmed, pleaded not guilty before the court.

However, the arguments put forth by Chief Prosecuting Officer and the counsel for the victims “persuaded the Judge to frame charges against the accused fake faith healer”, the CNS writes.

Gulzar Bhat, who went by the name Syed Gulzar, was to his followers a sufi saint and ran a seminary in Shamsabad village in Budgam.

He was arrested in May this year after police received a complaint from some minor girls alleging that they had been repeatedly raped during their stay at the seminary. His followers have claimed that Bhat was framed.
