PATTAN: The police in south Kashmir busted a fake-appointment racket on Saturday.
A few locals from Kulgam district who had fallen prey to this scam had complained to the police that they were offered fake appointment orders in lieu of money by the accused, a local news agency, CNS, reports.
A top police official from Police Station Pattan said they received information about the presence of the kingpin of this group and his accomplices in the area.
He said the police raided a house and arrested Sartaj Malik. However, he said, his two accomplices, Showkat Malik and Sofi Sahb, had already fled from there.
Sources said that the trio were luring people to get jobs in ‘Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry’ by providing them fake appointment orders.
“In lieu of fake appointment orders without any credentials, the trio duped scores of people in Khutpora area of Kulgam town and received hefty sum of money,” the official added.
Police have registered a case.
