SRINAGAR: The plaque on the empty grave reserved for Afzal Guru in Kashmir has been put back after it went missing overnight.
The plaque, erected in the “Martyr’s Graveyard” at Eidgah which houses the graves of hundreds of militants and civilians killed since 1990, was found missing by residents this morning.
It carried an epitaph which read, “His remains are lying with the Indian government as a trust of Kashmiri nation and we are waiting for it”
Who took it away, the residents said they don’t know. But now, they say, it has been erected again.
Guru was hanged in the Tihar jail in Delhi on Saturday and buried there. His family has asked authorities to give them his body for burial in Kashmir.
Separatists placed the plaque with epitaph inscribed alongside another empty grave – of Maqbool Bhat, a leader who is also buried in Tihar jail after hanging in 1984.
