SRINAGAR, Oct 8: High drama was witnessed in the state assembly after a young man jumped into well of the house shouting slogans against the government’s employment policy.
The man, whose identity has not yet been established, was then dragged out and beaten-up by the assembly marshals. However, two of his supporters continued waving flags in protest.
Unemployment among youth is among the major concerns in Kashmir where a 23-year-old violence marked by a systemic collapse is waning.
The speaker of the legislative assembly has called for an investigation into the incident.
However Chief Minister Omar Abdullah downplayed the incident saying the men were unarmed and did not aim to harm any legislators. He said they had entered on valid passes and refused to call it a breach of security.
