Deihi HC blast accused a “martyr”: Kashmir’s Geelani

SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Pro-Pakistan Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday eulogized the slain prime accused in the Delhi high court blast case Amir Ali Kamal as a ‘great martyr’. Geelani addressed the funeral meeting of the two slain ultras in Kishtwar over telephone triggering a fresh political storm in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Kashmiris are fighting for a noble cause and our youth are giving supreme sacrifices for this goal,” he said.

Amir Ali Kamal and Sajad Ahmad were gunned down by security forces on Monday after a year-long hunt at the Trothil forests in Kishtwar district of Jammu division. Amir Kamal was carrying a Rs one million bounty on his head for his role in the Delhi bomb blast case.

“People should not get demoralised and continue the mission of martyrs. No freedom movement has failed in the world. New Delhi has to leave Kashmir one day because people are fighting for a genuine cause,” he said.

Geelani’s spokesman Ayaz Akbar said it was on the insistence of people that the Hurriyat hawk addressed the people at Kishtwar highlighting the Kashmir cause.

“It was the freedom-loving people who wanted him to address them. He highlighted the atrocities committed on the people and said people are fighting for a noble cause. He also referred to Bandipora and Shopian killings in his speech,” he said

Geelani’s speech has triggered a fresh political storm in Kashmir with BJP seeking explanation from the NC-Congress coalition government for allowing Geelani to make “hate speech” in Kishtwar.

“We demand action against the Hurriyat hawk leader for committing sedition. National Conference and Congress are playing vote bank politics. Let government explain how he was allowed to make this speech. We will not allow divisive politics to be played in Jammu and Kashmir”, said SS Manhas state BJP president.
