SRINAGAR: Security forces and sniffer dogs are searching hard a dense forest in north Kashmir for a group of militants they believe could have recently infiltrated from Pakistan
The massive combing operation began last Tuesday after the guerrillas were spotted close to the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the state between the two countries.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police has joined hundreds of army soldiers in the search operation in Shamswari forests.
“The (security forces) are slowly closing in on the cordoned off forest area,” IANS quoted a source as saying.
Violence involving militants and security forces has overall declined in Kashmir, where tens of thousands of people have been killed since an armed revolt broke out in 1989.
The police puts the number of militants active in the valley at just above 70.
