SRINAGAR: More than a hundred state employees have been detained by the police as they took out demonstrations as part of a 3-day strike call over various demands which include a raise in retirement age from 58 years to 60.
Work in government offices remains paralysed since Tuesday as nearly half a million employees are protesting against the government, called by trade union amalgam, Joint Consultative Committee (JCC).
The Joint Consultative Committee alleged that state government has failed to implement the agreement reached between the two parties over increase in the retirement age from present 58 years to 60 years, regularisation of contractual employees, removal of pay anomalies and payment of arrears from the sixth pay commission.
In Kashmir region, employees staged dharna, but police used force to disperse them as they tried to move towards the Divisional Commissioner or the provincial head’s office.
More than a hundred were detained at Regal chowk.
Majority of government offices, including the headquarters of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Water Works (WW),Power Development Department (PDD)and animal husbandry remained shut.
However, schools in the state are shut owing to winter vacations.
