SRINAGAR: An indefinite strike by Patwaris (Revenue officials) in Jammu and Kashmir has entered its 18th day today, affecting work in revenue departments.
All Jammu and Kashmir Patwari Association (AJKPA) have been protesting since April 8, demanding of the government to fulfil their demands which include removal of pay anomalies.
“We are aware about problems faced by the masses but our strike has been forced by government’s failure to respond to our demands,” an AJKPA spokesman told PTI.
“We will continue our agitation till the demands are not fulfilled,” the spokesman said.
The Patwaris are also demanding among recruitment of more revenue officials.
Meanwhile scores of casual laborers, daily wagers and land donors of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Kashmir today staged a peaceful protest demanding their regularization and release of wages on monthly basis.
Waering black and holding placards reading, ‘release our wages, regularize our services and save youth save future’, the employees threatened to take their protests to capital New Delhi if their demands are not met.
Earlier this month PHE employees’ association held massive protests twice to press for their demands. Many were arrested after the police used force to disperse them.
