SRINAGAR: Curfew has been lifted in other towns of south Kashmir valley, barring Shopian where it continues for the tenth day following the killing of four people by paramilitary CRPF.
In total five people have been shot dead in the district’s Gagren village as the CRPF killed another youth on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to impose a fresh curfew barely hours after it was lifted.
The curfew was also imposed in many towns of two other districts until late on Sunday evening in view of a two-day shutdown called by senior separatist, Syed Ali Geelani, against the killings.
There has been no major violence in the past two days across the valley.
The government has initiated a magisterial inquiry into the killings and has also directed that the CRPF personnel in Gagren camp be replaced by the state policemen. However many have insisted that the camp be dismantled.

Mr Geelani has dismissed the order of the inquiry saying it was an eyewash.
Meanwhile, in a controversial statement, senior Congress leader and minister, Taj Mohiuddin has overtaken the probe into the Shopian incident ordered by his own government.
Giving a verdict of sorts, Mr Mohiuddin has said one of the four youth shot dead on September 7 was a militant and not a Bihari labourer as many claimed.
