SRINAGAR: The authorities say the CRPF men who fired killing a youth in suburban Srinagar Wednesday had come under attack by a group of stone pelters.
“Men of 73 BN of CRPF were on way to SKIMS to donate blood for the CRPF personnel, who had been injured in the Bemina attack earlier in the day,” Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah today informed the Legislative Assembly in winter capital Jammu.
“They were reportedly attacked by an alleged group of stone pelters at Saidpora Eidgah, Srinagar, the minister said, according to an official spokesman.
The CRPF men retaliated and opened the fire in which 35-year-old Altaf Ahmad Mir was killed, Saifullah said.
Minister of State for Home Sajad Kichloo informed the assembly that Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand are in Srinagar and reviewing the situation and “hoped they would take an appropriate decision regarding Saidpora incident soon”.
Pertinently the ruling National Conference on Wednesday said they could vouch that the late Altaf Ahmed was not part of any stone pelter group. They said he was a staunch supporter of the pro-India party.
