SRINAGAR, May 30: Militants Wednesday attacked a vehicle of the Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) in capital Srinagar injuring seven paramiltary personnel, one of them seriously.
“Militants on a bike fired indiscriminately at our patrol party at Rainwari in downtown Srinagar,” CRPF spokesperson Sudhir Kumar told FPK.
Police and paramilitary have launched a manhunt for the attackers who were not identified.
However, a local daily Greater Kashmir reported that a caller, who identified himself as the spokesperson of ‘Islamic Front’, claimed the responsibility for the attack. “Cadres from our outfit carried out the attack”. he was quoted as saying.
The attack comes at a time when security agencies have been claiming that militancy related violence was at lowest ebb ever since it started in 1989.
Authorities have already started a process of removing bunkers from many parts of the city owing to the decline in violence.
