SRINAGAR, July 2: The bus service across the Line of Control (Loc), dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan, resumed on Monday, officials said.
The peace bus was supended two weeks ago after armies of the two neigbours exchanged heavy fire in Poonch area of the state resulting in the casualties on both sides.
Around eight dozen passengers from both parts of the divided region crossed sides in a weekly trans-border bus in Poonch district.
At least 45 people travelled from Poonch to Rawalakot, while the rest came to this side of Kashmir from the other part.
Among those who travelled on LoC Poonch-Rawalakote bus via Chakan-Da-Bagh border point, 45 crossed over to PoK from J-K, while rest came to J-K from PoK, officials said.
The cross-LoC bus service and trade came to a halt on in mid-June after tension erupted between the two south Asian rivals. India blamed Pakistan for provocation with “sniper fire” which followed a series of gunfights killing at least two soldiers and wounding four on the Indian side.
Pakistan, however, denied the charges. They even cancelled a weekly flag meeting between army officers of the two sides, reportedly without assigning any reasons.
The flag meeting was, however, later held a larger level with ‘Brigade Commandant’ rank officers taking part in it.
