SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Authorities in unemployment-ridden Kashmir say they plan to speed up the process of employing nearly 70,000 youth in various government departments immediately after the court stay on the state’s new employment policy gets vacated.
“Government will fast track selection process to fill up about 70,000 posts lying vacant in different departments as soon as the court stay is vacated,” an official spokesperson quoted finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather as informing the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
Unemployment is a major concern in Jammu and Kashmir state where a 23-year-old conflict marked by a systemic collapse is waning.
Late last year, the state’s new employment policy, which aimed at alleviating unemployment while balancing the burden upon the exchequer, came into effect. As per the new policy, a person will be entitled for a full salary only after completing five years in service.
According to the new policy, an employee would get less than half of the stipulated salary for the five year period.
However, it has been challenged in high court wings of both the capitals – Kashmir and Jammu, Rather said while replying legislator T. Namgyal.
“The stay order has (now) been vacated from Srinagar High Court Wing. The recruitment process would be accelerated as soon as the stay order is got vacated from the Jammu wing,” the minister said.
