SRINAGAR, July 3: Suspected militants on Tuesday shot dead two cops of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in two southern districts of the valley, police said.
In the afternoon, unidentified gunmen fired at constable Dalbir Singh in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, more than 30 kilometres from capital Srinagar, they said.
Singh, hurt in the abdomen, was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed.
In Kulgam district, more than 70 kilometres from the capital, a constable Mukhtar Ahmed was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at 1715 hrs in the evening.
Soon after the attacks, operations were launched at both places to track down the assailants who fled the scene taking advantage of panic caused by the shootings.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has condemned the killing of two police personnel describing the act cowardice and inhuman.
The Chief Minister conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
