Congress reprimands minister for outburst against LC chairman

SRINAGAR, Nov 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has disapproved of the remarks of its minister, Taj Mohiuddin, against the Chairman of Legislative Council following the controversy over land grabbing allegations against the former.

“We disapprove of the remarks of Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Contral Taj Mohiuddin against the Chairman of Legislative Council and term the same as unparliamentary and highly indecent”, JKPCC General Secretary, chief spokesman and MLC Ravinder Sharma said late on Thursday.

Sharma was reacting to the statement of Mohiuddin against the legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra. He had attacked Malhotra terming as illegal his step to form a panel to probe the land grabbing charges against him and had requested Congress High Command for bringing a no-confidence motion.

The committee, which was formed on October 16 to probe against Mohiuddin in connection with the grabbing of forest land in Sadiv area of Shopian district, was dissolved by the Chairman on November 12 after two NC members resigned from the panel.

In a statement, Sharma has said that Presiding Officers of the Legislative Houses are always referred to with respect and dignity because they “represent the highest constitutional institutions in Parliamentary democracy”.

The Congress party has always maintained highest standard in the public life and while referring to the constitutional institutions in this country, he said.

Meanwhile, the minister faced yet another allegation of land grabbing at Chak Lalu Shah in Jammu district but he quickly trashed them “as malicious, concocted and deliberate”.

“We rebutt the charges of land grabbing at Chak Lalu Shah in Jammu district levelled against him by one Tilak Raj and Hem Raj sons of Karam Chand.

“It is malicious, concocted and deliberate,” Mohiuddin said.

He said that the issue of the said piece of land in the name of his daughters is pending adjudication with the Jammu Bench of the High Court and any opinion or statement at this juncture amounts to contempt of the court.

The minister said the allegations against him “reeked of conspiracy”.

Tilak Raj and Hem Raj had alleged in the press conference today that Mohiuddin had grabbed their several acres of land in Chak Lalu Shah area in Jammu district.
