JAMMU: Senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma has dared the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on his recent remarks on accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Union of India.
“Mr Abdullah is creating ‘uncertainty’ by challenging the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union,” Mr Sharma said here yesterday while addressing a function of lawyers and advocates.
What does the Chief Minister want to convey by making statements on accession of the state with India does not mean merger with the Union?, he asked.
“Such ‘damaging’ statements despite being in Government, do not serve any purpose towards resolution of the problem but only create ‘uncertainty’ in this sensitive State thus, encourage anti-nationals.”
Asserting that there was no dispute over the state’s integration with Indian Union, after the agreements of 1947, 1953 and finally Indira-Sheikh Accord of 1975, Mr Sharma said, “if there is dispute over accession and merger, then why do you (Omar Abdullah) take oath of Indian Constitution for contesting elections and then getting elected?
“Why are you staying in the Government and for what?” he further asked.
Mr Sharma, however, also dared the Chief Minister to ‘quit’ from chair if he has reservations over the status of Jammu and Kashmir with the Centre.
Mr Abdullah during his meeting with a European Union delegation recently in Srinagar, had reportedly said that the accession of the state did not mean merger with the Indian Union.
