Property and crops worth lakhs damaged, scores of cattle washed away
TRAL: Dozens houses have been destroyed and crops worth lakhs of rupees damaged due to a cloudburst in south Kashmir’s Tral town.
The cloudburst on Tuesday night occurred some three kilometres away from Zuistan area, where shepherds take their cattle for grazing.
They shepherds spent their nights there.
The cloudburst triggered a flash flood which inundated the surrounding localities, a local news agency, CNS reports.
Two school buildings and a mosque are among the building damaged besides sheds.
A local resident, Ghulam Hassan Dar said “the villagers left all their belongings behind to save their lives.”
There have been no deaths reported as of now. But the agency reports that several shepherds may have gone missing.
Many sheep have also been killed in the incident.
The authorities say they visited the spot and have taken stock of the situation.
“Zuistan and its adjacent areas are submerged in water and everywhere you could see mud and water which presents a devastated look,” Tehsildar Tral, Rouf-ul-Rehman said.
He said damage to property was yet to be assessed.
