SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah says the Chinese incursion in Ladakh has had no impact on tourism in Leh area and that there was no need to link the two.
“The Chinese troops are too far to bother any tourists coming to Leh,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
On April 15, troops of the People’s Liberation Army of China crossed the Line of Actual Control with India and have been camping 10 kms inside the “Indian territory” ever since.
The site where the Chinese are camping is Daulat Beg Oldie, 150 odd kilometres away from Leh town.
The Chief Minister said talking about the effects of the incursion by Chinese troops on tourism in Leh will create doubts in the minds of potential tourists intending to visit Ladakh.
“When we use the words ‘Chinese troops’ and ‘tourists’ in the same sentence, we create doubts where none existed,” he wrote. added.
Ladakh is a favourite destination among foreign backpackers who visit the region for trekking and adventure sports like white water rafting.
