SRINAGAR: A child was killed and two women were injured in wild animal attacks in Kashmir valley, official sources said here today.
They said a wild animal entered a village in the frontier district of Kupwara and took away a child.
A massive hunt has been launched to trace the child.
People later protested against the incident and raised slogans against Wildlife department, alleging that despite repeated requests, the department failed to take any action against the wild animals who often infiltrate into the villages near forests.
It was a third such incident during the past few months, the residents said.
Meanwhile, sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to trace the body of the child, sources said.
They said a leopard entered Lalpora Beerwah village in Budgam district from near by forest. Before the villagers could do anything, the animal attacked and injured Rafiqa and Waheeda.
Both the injured were admitted to hospital, they said, adding the wild cat later escaped into the forest.
