SRINAGAR: The Charri ‘Pujan’ will be held later today at Shri Amareshwar Temple Akhara building at Badshah Chowk near here, where ‘Chhari Sthapana’ was performed yesterday to allow devotees to have the glimpse of holy silver mace of Lord Shiva.
The Charri Sthapana was performed on Friday by Mahant Deepinder Giri who is custodian of the Charri Mubarak.
A large number of devotees, including security forces, central government employees along with their families and Kashmiri Pandits are visiting Shri Amareshwar Temple to have the glimpse of Chhar-Mubarak.
The Chhari will be kept in the Temple for ‘darshan’ till commencement of main course of pilgrimage on August 16, Mahant Giri said. He said traditional ‘Chhari-Pujan’ shall be performed at 1700 hrs today on the occasion of ‘Nag-Panchami’.
On August 16, on the occasion of Dashmi, the Chhari will start journey from Dashnami Akhara to Holy Cave shrine in south Kashmir, where the final darshan will be held on August 21 on the occasion of Sharavan-Purnima, Rakshabandan.
However, enroute to Pahalgam the Chhari will be taken to several temples, including Martand shrine at Mattan in south Kashmir.
Before 1990, when the turmoil broke out in the valley, the Chhari was taken from Dashnami Akhara shortely before the sun set for night halt at Durganag temple.
The entire track from here to Holy cave was being covered on foot by the devotees, carrying the Chhari. However, for security reasons, Chhari will leave early in the morning in vehicles under security cover to reach Pahalgam in the evening before starting foot journey towards the cave shrine.
