SRINAGAR: Taking serious note of violation of norms set by the government under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), the authorities in Kashmir on Monday attached the Chief Education Officers of Srinagar and Baramulla districts.
A local news agency, KNS, reports that both CEOs had allegedly transferred several Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers from one zone to another, contrary to the rules.
“The transfers were made in order to re-advertise these posts so that new blue-eyed candidates could be accommodated,” the agency writes, quoting sources.
The government took a serious note and ordered attachment of CEO Srinagar Nazir Ahmad Khant and CEO Baramulla Abdul Rouf with the Directorate Education Kashmir, till further orders.
The Director of School Education Kashmir confirmed that the officers have been attached.
Meanwhile, Principal DIET Srinagar Munshi Mohammad Javid has been given additional charge of CEO Srinagar, while Principal DIET, Sopore, Ashok Kumar has been given additional charge of CEO Baramulla.
Meanwhile, the distressed educated youth of these two districts have alleged corruption and favouritism by the officials of Education Department at Zonal and District levels.
“This is sheer injustice with us,” some of the educated youth of Srinagar told KNS. They claimed that it was their right to be appointed as ReTs in their own areas.
“Why somebody from other area is being transferred to our village while as the SSA norms say that local educated youth must be given preference,” asked a youth.
