SRINAGAR: Canadian High Commissioner, Stewart Beck today discussed matters of mutual interest with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This was the first meeting of any High Commissioner of a foreign country with the Governor and the Chief Minister after music maestro Zubin Mehta performed at Shalimar garden on the bank of Dal Lake here recently.
The ‘ Ehsaas-e-Kashmir’ was organised by Germany Embassy. An official spokesman said that Mr Beck, High Commissioner of Canada to India, currently on a visit to the State, met Mr Vohra at Raj Bhavan, here today.
During their hour-long meeting, the Governor and the High Commissioner of Canada discussed, interalia, various matters, particularly the close ties between India and Canada, and the high potential of further enhancing and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Dwelling on the progress achieved by the State in different arenas in the past few years, the Governor hoped to see joint J&K and Canadian ventures materialising in the near future.
Mr Beck also called on Mr Abdullah here and discussed various matters of mutual interest with him.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by Head of the Political and Economic Programme, Johanne forest, Senior Analyst in the Privy Council Office at Ottawa, Jawad Qureshi and Senior Analyst in the Political and Economic Programme of the High Commission of Canada, Madhsri Dass.
Matters pertaining to revival of tourism, peace and economic development besides initiatives taken by the State and the Central Governments for inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir also came up in the meeting.
