SRINAGAR: One paramilitary soldier has been killed and another wounded after suspected militants fired at a vehicle of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Gulshan Nagar in the outskirts of Srinagar Thursday morning.
Krishan Kalita succumbed to his injuries at the army hospital in Badamibagh.
This is the second militant strike on paramilitaries in Srinagar in nine days. It happened on the National Highway bypass, on which army convoys move everyday.
Police say the BSF did not retaliate and that the militants fled the scene.
Earlier on March 13, five CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) soldiers had been killed and as many wounded in an attack at Bemina, a suburban neigbourhood of the city.
Both the attacks have happened after the hanging of Afzal Guru, convicted for plotting the 2001 attack on the Parliament.
The overall violence in Kashmir has steady declined in the past ten year. However the army generals say the situation is still precarious.
