JAMMU: The Border Security Force or BSF has vacated its Dharam camp in Gool village of Ramban district, a day after it killed six Muslim protestors in indiscriminate firing.
The state cabinet has put on record that the BSF used excessive force against the unarmed villagers who had gathered in their thousands to protest sacrilege of the Quran and assault on the cleric of a local seminary.
The Press Trust of India reports that BSF soldiers have been moved to Battalion area in Ramban district and the facility has been handed over to police forces today.
“The move was taken in view of tensions after yesterday’s incident,” a BSF officer told the agency.
Earlier the government had ordered transfer of deputy commissioner or district head of Ramban district, Shyam Vinod Meena, whose role came in for criticism.
