JAMMU: One Border Security Force soldier was killed and seven others were injured as Pakistan Rangers resorted to heavy firing at forward Indian posts along International Border in Ranbir Singh Pura Sector of this winter capital.
”One BSF personnel identified as Head Constable Mukesh Lal Meena, posted in BOP Chinaj, resident of village Nipajipura, post office Mohacha, District Swaimadhopur, Rajasthan deployed with 193 Battalion was killed and seven others sustained injuries as Pakistan Rangers late last night fired heavily on at least 52 forward Border Outposts in Arnia, Akhnoor and R S Pura Sectors,” an official said here.
He said that the injured soldiers, identified as Inspector Rampal, SI Surender Singh, Ct Pradeep Singh, Ct Ashok Kumar, Const Manoj Kumar, Const Srinivas Naik and Const Sandip Kumar, all deployed with 193 Battalion, were immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
Pakistan Rangers fired heavily on forward posts after Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde reviewed border situation at a meeting with senior BSF and Police officials at Samba.
Mr Shinde had said that the attempts of ceasefire violations had increased from Pakistan and he also motivated BSF jawans to “effectively” retaliate to firing from across the border.
The Union Home Minister and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday also reviewed overall security in the state at a high-level meeting.
