SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Authorities in Kashmir have ordered internet service providers and telecom operators to suspend downloading the trailer of the US-made anti-Islam film denouncing the Prophet of Islam, which led to violent protests across the Muslim world.
The state home department has also suggested the service providers to fully block YouTube and Facebook, if need be, should they face “technical difficulties” in blocking download and upload of the video titled ‘Innocence of Muslims”.
“In exercise of the powers conferred U/S 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in the interest of public safety and for maintaining public order, hereby directs that:-
(i) All licensed Telecom Service Providers/ Internet Service Providers shall make arrangements to ensure that their subscribers/ customers/ clients in the State of Jammu and Kashmir should not be able to download or upload the contents with regard to film/message/comments/excerpts of the blasphemous video titled “Innocence of Muslims” or by any other name,” an official statement read quoting the home ministry’s order.
The home department has also directed the service providers to ensure that ‘bulk mails’ which are being generated from cellular or internet users do not contain this file or versions of this file.
“And in case of suspicion/detection, the same shall be blocked and filtered,” the order reads.
On Sunday the union ministry of information and broadcasting said Google India had blocked all access to the blasphemous film.
