JAMMU, July 23: A Public Works Department (PWD) official was killed and eight others injured in an explosion in the compound of a police station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday.
The incident occurred when some explosives used by the PWD exploded while some workers were carrying them out of the Bani police station.
A PWD supervisor was killed immediately after the explosion, Police said.
Eight labourers were also injured during the incident.
“As per preliminary investigation, the explosion occurred due to reported mishandling of the explosives by the workers,” a senior police official said.
Four vehicles belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police were damaged in the blast also.
The cars were parked outside the police station.
