SRINAGAR: A one-year-old boy was charred to death in a fire incident in south Kashmir, police said Friday.
Baby Abrar was sleeping with his parents in an old tin house at Audu village in Shopian district when it caught fire on Thursday night.
Police said the fire spread so fast that it gave no time for Abrar’s parents to save him.
“He was completely burnt. The flooring of the tin house was a sheet of thermocol which is inflammable,” Station House Officer, Kellar, Imtiyaz Ahmed told freepress.
The baby’s parents suffered burns in the incident and have been shifted to Srinagar for treatment. His father, Mohammed Ashraf is a labourer.
Police say they have started investigations into what caused the fire.
“Prima facie it looks like the Kangri (earthen firepot used for warmth) caused the fire,” SHO Ahmed said.
