SRINAGAR, June 20: Jammu and Kashmir police have claimed that the four constables arrested for alleged militant links were on a mission to orchestrate attacks to create chaos in the state.
In the FIR copy available with Daily Post, police claimed that they had recovered an Urdu document showing various ways of making explosives and mines from the main accused, Muhammad Abbas Rather.
“This (document) depicts that the accused along with other militants were on way to carry out bomb blasts in the state aimed to create fear among the general public,” the copy of FIR reads.
It further reads: “The attempts of accused were aimed at secession of Jammu and Kashmir from the country.”
On June 16, Jammu and Kashmir police said it had arrested three constables, Mukhtar Sheikh, Mohammed Abbas and Riyaz Ahmed, for their alleged links with militants. Subsequently, another cop, Muhammad Illyass was arrested on same charges. Illyass was working in the CID wing of the state police.
On June 7, Hizb militants attacked a surrendered militant, Ghulam Hassan Mir alias Shabnam, of south Kashmir’s Tral township. Police suspected the role of some of their cops also in this attack, sources said. During investigations, police found that Abbas had been in touch with Shabir and arrested the former.
Police recovered a paper with an IED-making formula from him.
After interrogation Abbas told police about the involvement of other three policemen, who were later arrested. All of them have been booked under section 10 (being member of an unlawful organisation), section 13 (any form of assistance in unlawful activity), section 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and 3 PEPO (Police Enhanced Penalty Ordinance).
