Violent protests have erupted in Pulwama town
SRINAGAR: The number of militants killed in a gunbattle with security forces since yesterday afternoon in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has gone up to two, police say.
The gunfight has now ended.
Police say fresh firing started in the wee hours today as security forces battled militants holed up at the site.
Station House Officer, Rajpora , Muzzafar Ahmad told Freepress that Abbas Nengroo , a militant of the Jaish e Mohammad rebel group was killed in the fresh firing.
A residential building was also destroyed during the gun fight.
Yesterday a Divisional Commander of the same militant group, Altaf Baba alias Gazi Baba was killed.
The gunfight had started in Rajpora area on Wednesday after a patrol party of 44 Rashtriya Rifles unit of the army came under fire from the militants.
Witnesses told Freepress that violent protests have now erupted in Pulwama town where angry youth attacked a police vehicle which turned turtle injuring at least 4 policemen.
Reports say many youth, protesting against the militants’ killing, have also been injured in clashes with the police who fired tear smoke shells at them.
