SRINAGAR: The government is learnt to have approved another member for J-K’s maiden vigilance commission, formed to help tackle graft in the country’s second-most corrupt state.
The commission was formed in 2011, but it’s head, former DG Police Kuldeep Khoda, was approved on Monday, after a long delay marked by controversies over his selection.
Dr RK Jerath has been appointed as the second member of the commission, the Greater Kashmir reported.
Another probable, former secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), Muhammad Sayeed Khan had withdrawn his candidature.
Sources told the newspaper that the vigilance commission will function with only two members for the time being and that “the process for appointment of another commissioner will be initiated”.
The Commission, they said, will be start work before the start of upcoming Budget Session of the state legislature.
“Governor has to address joint session of the legislature on February 28 and government has incorporated the establishment of SVC as one of its achievements in Governor Address”, they said.
