SRINAGAR: Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) Saturday said that 24 more drugs, used in valley hospitals, have been found substandard by two premier drug testing laboratories of India.
Asking government to suspend and arrest those involved in fake drug scam, DAK threatened a state wide agitation after Eid-ul-Fitr.
It said that it was in a process to ‘sensitize’ the issue and urged people to react against these social evils.
Addressing press conference here, DAK President Dr Nisar-ul-Hasan revealed that out of 50 drugs tested in laboratories, 24 have been found substandard.
“Out of 156 samples taken from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, 24 drugs were declared as “not of standard quality” by the Government Analyst of Central Drugs Laboratory Kolkata and Regional Drug Testing Lab Chandigarh,” said Hassan.
These drugs include most important life saving medicines.
He said that not only drugs supplied to government hospitals are spurious but also samples collected from private chemist shops have been found substandard.
“It is a shame for both state and central government. I want the nation to react,” Hasan said.
He also alleged that death of 500 children in GB Panth hospital didn’t occur because of negligence of doctors but due to spurious drugs.
“Those involved in scam includes high ups and politicians. But they are not being arrested because they have the back of politicians.”
Dr Hasan said he had written a letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi asking federal government’s intervention in fake drug scam to punish guilty as the matter involves ‘human issue’.
“But I didn’t receive any response till date.”
