Acid attack: Kashmir govt to bear treatment expenses, PDP demands job

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to bear all expenses on the treatment of the Parraypora acid attack victim, who has been shifted to the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.

“On the instructions of the Chief Minister, all the expenses for treatment till complete recovery of the victim will be borne by the state government,” local agency, KNS quoted Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma as having said.

“I have already talked to the authorities at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi and told them that the state government will bear all the expenses for treatment of the acid attack victim.”

Sharma said the central government has also kept all options open for the state regarding services of expert doctors for the victim. They have offered full support in this regard, he added.

‘Rehabilitation’

The woman in her late twenties, who suffered burns on her face and arms, was flown to New Delhi for specialised treatment today.

The attacker, Reyaz Ahmed Nath has been arrested along with a friend.

Meanwhile the state’s main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that the woman be provided a government job. She worked as a private tutor.

“For her rehabilitation it is necessary that the government should come forward with appropriate measures and the minimum it could do was to provide an appropriate job to the victim,” PDP spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said.

He said in view of the fact that the young lady might lose vision in one eye, her disability would entitle her for a preferential treatment in getting a government job.

“But in view of the devastating incident she faced it would be necessary to provide her a job out of the way,” he added.
