SRINAGAR: The Banihal-Qazigund section of the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line is to be commissioned in April-May, 2013, according to a fresh deadline set by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
This was among the various decisions taken at a meeting in the PMO on Thursday in New Delhi to step up efforts to speed up infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir.
An official spokesman said the meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and attended by the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and Secretaries of the various ministries.
The meeting reviewed the progress of various projects covering the railways, power, civil aviation, food processing, tourism and textiles, a PMO release said.
Among the other things decided are:
- Power transmission and distribution network strengthening works in Jammu and Kashmir region is to be completed by March, 2014.
- The Chutak hydel project is to be fully commissioned by October, 2013.
- The Nimoo – Bazgo hydel project is to be completed by December, 2013.
“Secretaries of the Union Government have been asked to intensively monitor these projects,” the spokesman said. “The PMO is geared to convene a series of meetings in the near future to ensure that the timelines are met.”
