Three Pak-trained militants arrested: Kashmir Police

SRINAGAR, July 11: Three militants, who recently crossed over to Kashmir, were arrested, police said Wednesday.

The militants had received arms training in Pakistan, they said.

A patrol party of the state police arrested the militants at Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“The arrested militants were identified as Naseer Ahmad Qureshi @Shah Baz son of Hanga Handwara , Farooq Ahmad @Abid of Herpora Handwara and Mohammad Yousuf @Khalid of Pringroo Mawar Handwara,” a police spokesperson said.

The police have not clarified to which organisation the militants belong.

Kashmir’s security forces have been grappling with militancy related violence over the past weeks even as authorities claim that armed rebellion was at its lowest ebb ever since it started more than two decades ago.

At least five militants and one soldier have been killed in separate encounters across the valley last week.

No arms were, however, have been recovered from the militants who were arrested Wednesday. Police have registered a case and have launched investigation into the incident.
