SRINAGAR, July 9: The government on Monday attached seven senior health officials for alleged graft and making fake appointments in Jammu and Kashmir, a region tagged as the “second most corrupt state” in the country.
Officials said more officers and employees could face the same action.
“Acting tough on the complaints about the fake appointments made in the Health Department in the Anantnag, the Government has attached seven senior officers in the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir with immediate effect,” an official statement said.
The officers who have been attached are, Dr. A. R. Matoo, in-charge Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Anantnag, Dr. N. A. Hakim, Deputy Director (Schemes), Dr. Altaf Beigh, CMO, Kulgam, Dr. G. M. Shaksaz, Medical Superintendent, JLNM Hospital, Srinagar, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Najar, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Larnoo, Dr. Gowhar Abbas, BMO, Mattan and Dr. Iqbal Bichoo who is presently attached in the office of CMO, Anantnag.
Further the Director Health Services, Kashmir has been asked to enquire into all such complaints in the matter of other districts as well and submit a report to the Government at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Health, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has said that stern action will be taken against all the erring officers and the beneficiaries of the fake appointments after a detailed enquiry into all such complaints.
In Jammu Crime Branch today registered a criminal case against two persons, including a doctor, for their alleged involvement in offences of cheating, fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
Crime Branch Jammu today registered a case under various sections of law against Sanjeev Sharma and Dr Mohit Gupta, posted in Gandhi Nagar Hospital here, for their alleged involvement in the offences, CB officials said.
Anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International rated Kashmir as the second-most corrupt state in India after Bihar.
But hardly was been taken to weed out the corrupt.
