JAMMU: A slight intensity tremor rocked Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and Reasi districts of the Chenab valley region in Jammu and Kashmir Saturday. No damage to life or property has been reported.
An official of the Met Office told IANS, “A slight intensity earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred in the Chenab Valley districts of Jammu region at 5.35 a.m. today (Saturday) morning.”
“The tremor was felt in Bhaderwah town and its adjoining areas, but no damage to life or property has been reported so far,” he said.
“The epicenter of the tremor was in Bhaderwah – Jammu and Kashmir,” the official added.
Tremors have been jolting the Chenab Valley districts of Jammu region since the beginning of this year.
A team of scientists led by Talat Ahmad, vice chancellor of Kashmir University, visited the area recently and ruled out that the tremors in the region had been occurring because of water reservoirs built for hydro-power generation projects.
