KAS Prelims Result ‘Murky’, Say Kashmir’s Private Tutors

SRINAGAR: The Coaching Centres Association of Kashmir (CCA) – a group of private tuition centres – has asked the government to put on hold the step-two examination of the Kashmir Administrative Service.

It said there are fears about deliberate goof-ups in the result of preliminary test conducted on September 29.

“The recently declared result had shown the cutoff marks for the selection as 288.57,” said G N Var, chairman of the CCA.

“But there are hundreds of students who after tallying their answer sheets easily get marks above 300, so somewhere somebody has goofed up.”

The CCA has condemned the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission for not revealing the answer keys of the recently declared result. This, according to the association, was tantamount to covering-up any wrongdoings going on in the commission.

“The commission should value the emotions and hard labour of the 20,236 youths, who spent nights for this examination…unfortunately the commission is treating these answer keys as some defence secret,” Var said.

“Transparency is the only solution to this problem, once you don’t hide anything, there is lesser chances of corruption.”

Pertinently out of 2477 selections in the first round, 701 had taken a test in Zoology.

The association has also expressed concern on the reports that majority of students come from some particular subjects. “This is a skewed result, proving to be one of the worst, on the scale of cleanliness,” said Var.

“On one hand about thousand students are selected from a particular stream and on the other hand no students have been selected from other subjects.”

Pertinently out of 2477 selections in the first round, 701 had taken a test in Zoology.

Mr Var said some students he knew are even contemplating RTI and going to court. “So the commission should first clear the doubts for once and all and then go for mains examination.”
