ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says continuous shelling by Indian soldiers across the working boundary has killed two civilians on Monday.
A spokesman of the Pakistani paramilitary border forces said Indian shelling also killed a number of cattle and damaged some houses in the disputed border area.
“Pakistani Punjab Rangers responded effectively and silenced the Indian guns,” Radio Pakistan quoted the Rangers spokesman as saying.
Five people were also injured in the firing at different locations, he said.
Pakistan describes the border area around Sialkot as the Working Boundary as it runs between the end of the international border between Pakistan and India from Sindh to Punjab and the beginning of the Line of Control, the de facto border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir.
Officials said Indian forces also fired shells on Pakistani areas along the Line of Control, which divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region.

Firing incidents along the LoC have increased recently despite a ceasefire declared by both countries in 2003.
Both uneasy neighbors, who have fought three wars since their independence in 1947, accuse each other of ceasefire violations.
The directors general of military operations (DGMO) will meet soon to discuss implementation of the ceasefire.
During a meeting in New York between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif last month, both sides agreed to have their DGMOs meet regularly in order to maintain peace on the Line of Control.
