Kashmir Assembly to Discuss VK Singh’s Revelations in Next Few Days

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly speaker Mubarak Gul today said a full discussion will be allowed in the House on former Army chief Gen V K Singh’s allegations that Army has been paying money to state politicians since 1947.

Immediately after the House met to take up the Question Hour, almost all opposition members from the Kashmir valley were on their feet, demanding cancellation of the business and taking up adjournment motion against Gen Singh and resolution on Shopian and other killings.

Mr Gul said he has received five adjournment motions from members on different subject.

However, Parliamentary Affairs minister Saifullah Mir intervened and said it was not possible to take all the motions at the same time. He said it will not be possible for the government to reply all the five motions.

However, opposition members continued their protests, demanding their adjournment should be taken up first.

Mr Gul outrightly rejected the BJP motion on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent statement on accession with Union of India.

He said the matter was discussed in the House yesterday.

The BJP members joined by National Panther Party (NPP) members walked out from the House, shouting slogans against the government. Later, he said he has received a Privilege Motion against Gen Singh from 15 National Conference (NC) members.

But PDP members insisted that their adjournment motion on Gen Singh and resolution on Shopian and other killings be taken up first.
