SRINAGAR: A massive operation continued in the woods near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector where one militant was killed after he infiltrated into this side from Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) yesterday.
There is a dense forest and it will take some days to complete searchs in the woods as they have inputs of these other militants to be in the forest, defence sources said. The sources said yesterday troops killed an infiltrator at Sona Pindi Gali in Machil sector after he had sneaked into this side.
Since there were inputs that four militants had sneaked into this side it was not immediately clear whether other three militants escaped back into the PaK though they were seen running towards the LoC.
“We donot want to take any chance,” the sources said, adding a joint search operation has been launched in the entire forest area from different directions.
However, so far there was no contact with the militants.
One AK rifle, one magazine and other war like stores have been recovered from the sight of encounter.
The sources said helicopters were also used in the operation to track down the militants if any in the woods.
A large number of trained militants are waiting across the LoC in launch pads to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.
Though militants are now making infiltration attempts even during winter, but the next month or two will be very crucial as more and more militants will try to sneak into this side, the sources said.
Security forces guarding the borders have foiled a number of infiltration attempts during this year since snow melted on upper heights.
